Heart of Enfield (HEM) is a faith-based community organisation working to establish a dedicated mosque whilst currently providing essential Islamic services across Enfield and surrounding areas. Operating from multiple locations including Turkey Street in Enfield and satellite venues in Enfield Island Village and Waltham Abbey, HEM serves the local Muslim community with daily prayers, weekly Friday Jummah services, and comprehensive educational programmes.
The organisation distinguishes itself through a holistic approach centred on four pillars: faith, community, education, and philanthropy. Rather than simply offering religious services, HEM actively engages young people and families through structured programmes designed to foster spiritual awareness and personal development. Their RootSpace Boys Programme targets years 10-13 with mentoring in a safe environment, whilst the HEM Inspired Girls Programme specifically addresses the needs of young women, encouraging academic achievement and confidence building.
HEM's supplementary school serves children aged 5-16, delivering interactive Islamic education with dedicated teachers focused on practical understanding rather than rote learning. The organisation also hosts annual Taraweeh prayers during Ramadan at larger facilities to accommodate the whole community.
Currently fundraising towards a £1.1 million target for a permanent mosque facility, HEM has already raised over £592,000, demonstrating strong community support. This grassroots approach—meeting people where they are whilst working towards sustainable infrastructure—makes HEM distinctive in its commitment to serving Enfield's diverse Muslim population comprehensively.
