# Harold Hill Community Mosque
Harold Hill Community Mosque, operated by Essex Cultural & Youth Society (ECYS), serves the Muslim community of Romford and surrounding areas in Havering. Located in a red brick building on Faringdon Avenue, the mosque provides comprehensive religious and educational services with dedicated facilities including wudhu areas, toilets, and a separate prayer room for women.
The organisation stands out through its multi-faceted approach to community support. Beyond daily prayers across five prayer times and three Jumu'ah jamaats, ECYS has established itself as an award-winning institution, having received three British Beacon Mosque Awards for Best Outreach Service, Best Madrasah Service, and Most Impactful Imam. This recognition reflects their commitment to meaningful community engagement and religious education.
ECYS operates Al-Marjaan Academy, the first Muslim-faith daytime tuition centre in Havering, offering up to 17 hours of educational support weekly for home-schooled children from pre-school through Key Stage 2. The curriculum combines the National Curriculum with an Islamic environment where prayer is integrated into the school day.
The organisation also runs specialised Islamic education programmes including a two-year Sanatayn course for foundational Islamic knowledge, a Hifdh-Ul-Qur'an course for boys aged 7-17, and an online Alimiyyah course. Currently, ECYS is fundraising to purchase their first purpose-built Islamic Centre and Mosque, requiring £1.9 million by October 2026.
